During the planting of trees on Vozdvizhenka, local activists discovered coins and fragments of ceramics. Experts from the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine believe that the objects found belong to the era of ancient Rome.

“During the planting of the second line of trees on the ground in front of the arrested “Hem Grad Vintage” we found a treasure! Some ancient coins. We called the Institute for the Preservation of Architectural Monuments and, of course, called the police,” a message said by activists on Facebook on March 22, 2019, said.

According to experts, several dozen coins, zippers for clothes and pottery fragments belong to the era of ancient Rome.

Researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vyacheslav Baranov said that the authenticity of these objects is beyond doubt. Just do not know how they were here.

“The found Roman coins are denarii of the first centuries of our era. They were at a depth of 30 centimeters. The cultural layers in this place begin at a depth of one and a half meters,” said Vyacheslav Baranov.

As for the fragments of ceramics, they could occur from the territories of Western Ukraine.

“Judging by the shape and ornaments of the objects, their region of origin is Western Ukraine. In Kiev, the land of such things can not be," - said archaeologist Nikita Sidko.

Enthusiasts who discovered the treasure promised to transfer it to the Museum of History of Kiev. And already there, his experts will find out the origin of the objects found during the planting of trees.
