Therefore, today we are opening a series of articles about people who have made and continue to make our country stronger. About those who raise our authority in the eyes of the whole world, and undoubtedly deserve great respect.

The status of one of the most influential women in the history of Ukraine was given to Princess Olga (c. 910-979). Having established order throughout the Kiev land, she demonstrated that women are no less strong in spirit than men. The princess had to rise to power after the death of Prince Igor (Olga's husband). For 15 years of her reign, Olga made Russia a powerful territorial unit. Contemporaries considered the princess a wise and courageous leader. In addition, Olga was the first of the rulers of Russia to decide on baptism.

Kievan Rus reached its highest level of development under Prince Yaroslav the Wise, the great innovator and reformer of his time. Yaroslav made the state one of the most majestic in Europe. Thanks to an erudite manager, the first legal collection of laws appeared and a system was established that regulates the order of succession to the throne.

The emergence of such architectural masterpieces as the Golden Gate and St. Sophia Cathedral, Ukrainians are also obliged to the Kiev prince. In addition to active military activities, Yaroslav the Wise paid much attention to the development of culture and literacy.

Nestor the Chronicler was considered the first intellectual and chief hagiographer of Kievan Rus. He specialized in literature and history, knew the Greek language. The Orthodox monarch not only professionally covered current events, but also studied ancient manuscripts. According to one version of historians, he was the author of The Tale of Bygone Years, a unique historical chronicle. The writer is canonized (Roman Catholic Church).

The ideologist of the Ukrainian Cossacks was Petr Konashevich-Sagaydachny. The talented commander managed to expand his powers and introduce him into an active political life. Thanks to Peter, the Cossacks became the prototype of the regular army. The tough but purposeful hetman brought order to the troops: he introduced a ban on vodka during hostilities, and imposed punishments for misconduct.

A series of useful reforms led to major military successes. Taking advantage of the approval of the Polish king, Sahaidachny managed to achieve an autonomous position for Ukraine for some time.

Philip Orlyk was Ivan Mazepa's chief clerk and successor. In an effort to keep the mace after the death of Mazepa, he became the founder of the most significant document in the history of Ukraine - the draft of the first Constitution. He contributed to the signing of laws and regulations that regulated the subordination between hetmans and foremen.

Orlyk strove for European integration and actively fought for the liberation of the lands of Ukraine from the influence of Muscovy. As a result of persecution, Orlik had to emigrate to Europe. But even there he did everything possible to maintain Ukrainian statehood.
