Not the only original: an exhibition of fakes of famous paintings is starting in Britain
The exhibition, which will show fakes of famous works of art that were previously considered to be originals, will start already this summer. Visitors to "Art and Artifice: Fakes from the Collection" will be able to delve into the history of their creation, learn the names of the authors.

These are more than 30 works that were passed off as works by Sandro Botticelli, Auguste Rodin, Dirk van Baburen and other artists.
Among them, you can also find the fake Van Baburen's "The Inquisitor", painted in the 1930s by the forger Han van Megeren, and "The Virgin and Child", one of the more famous exposed Botticelli forgeries. Here, the similarity in appearance with the famous movie star of the 1930s, Greta Garbo, helped the experts.
The exhibition, which will last from June 17 to October 8, 2023, will feature not only paintings, but also sculptures and objects of decorative and applied art.

Of course, forgeries are not new to the art world. For example, the first copies of Pieter Bruegel the Elder began to appear shortly after his death in 1569.
And what famous forgeries of works of art do you know? Share in the comments.
