Swiss shooting festival coins

The defense of the native country, region and city is a tradition of the German territories. Coins in honor of shooting festivals (shooting thalers) were first minted in 1842 in honor of the shooting festival in the city of Kurz by the authorities of the canton of Graubünden. The denomination of the coin is 4 francs.

Subsequently, since 1848, rifle thalers were minted by the Swiss federal government. The first such 5-franc coin was minted in honor of the Shooting Festival in Solothurn.

Rifle thalers between 1848 up to 1934 were minted under federal law and were legal tender until 1939.

The first (trial) gold coin was dedicated to the shooting festival in Schaffhausen. Not put into circulation.

An interesting example is the 100 francs minted from gold in honor of the shooting festival in Friborg in 1934.

In the period after World War II, coinage in honor of shooting festivals was actively continued.
