Nafiseh and Bahareh are a creative duo from Iran. The girls met at school and have been working together since 2010. During this time, they created a variety of works of art, including sophisticated conceptual jewelry. Due to restrictions, the craftswomen could not fully reveal their talent in their homeland, so all exhibitions are held abroad. So, last spring at an exhibition in Istanbul, they showed a collection of jewelry called Hopeing Against Hope.
Each item in this collection resembles a heavily damaged artifact. These are beautiful finished works containing motifs that the old masters turned to hundreds of years ago. The artists use emptiness as an element of the composition, they offer the viewer to focus on the absence of the missing fragment and see not destruction, but the victory of beauty over brokenness.
In addition to jewelry, Nafiseh and Bahareh create frescoes, installations and other works, referring to real stories. Life is the most valuable thing we have, life and death often become the main theme of the works. In 2014, a girl was executed in Iran after being accused of killing a man who tried to rape her. A few weeks later, a commemorative sculpture with the image of legs on a stool appeared - this is how the creative duet reacted to the tragic event.
