In the 20s of the last century, the “new objectivity” (Neue Sachlichkeit) art movement was formed in Germany. That was the period of the “golden twenties”, when creative groups with their own unique vision arose and developed in the country. The work of the representatives of the “new objectivity” remained relevant until the 1930s, then, with the advent of Hitler to power in Germany, a single order was established in the field of art, subordinate to the state, and everything “superfluous” was abandoned.
Artists of the "new objectivity" have shown themselves in the fine arts, architecture, cinema, and photography. Their works were a reaction to the formalism and abstractionism that dominated at that time in Europe. One such artist was photographer Albert Renger-Patzsch, who developed his own style of photography. He draws the viewer's attention to the smallest details of the objects he photographed. Ranger-Patch singled out for himself the main aspect in the creative process: to qualitatively reproduce the texture and represent the essence of the object. Around him, he saw the beauty that can be conveyed with the help of a picture, without resorting to such traditional methods as paint.
Plants, buildings, industrial objects, landscapes fell into the photographer's lens. The pinnacle of his work was the book The World is Beautiful, published in 1928. This includes one hundred photographs of people, animals, machines, structures. In the following years, Renger-Patch photographed industrial sites extensively. Unfortunately, a significant part of the work was destroyed during the Second World War, during the bombing.
Despite the fact that Renger-Patch was left without his studio and lost almost the entire archive, he did not give up and continued to work. Throughout the 60s, the photographer received several awards in the field of art. Today, his works can be seen in the largest museums in the world: the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan (MoMA), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc.
