Dear Readers! In our last article, we talked about the aureus of Emperor Aurelian, who restored the unity of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. Today we present to you the denarius minted at the beginning of the reign of Emperor Hadrian in memory of his predecessor, Emperor Marcus Ulpia Trajan, whom all subsequent generations of Romans considered the best emperor.

The silver denarius sold at a price comparable to the price of Aurelian's aureus. Apparently, this is the most expensive denarius sold on Violiti in the entire history of the resource's existence. And there is a justification for that. This is not only the extreme rarity of this denarius, but also the popularity and respect that Trajan already enjoys in our time.

The future emperor Trajan was born in southern Spain, his father was a senator. Starting at the age of 21, Trajan, thanks to his successes, was adopted by Emperor Nerva. Having ascended the throne, Trajan defeated the main enemies of the Rimadaks and the Parthian Empire during several military campaigns. His legions reached the Persian Gulf, and the territory of the empire under Trajan reached its maximum size. On his return from the Parthian campaign, Trajan died on the way. His nephew Adrian became the emperor.

The sculptural portraits of Trajan and Hadrian, the map of the empire under Trajan and the denarius himself in memory of Trajan are shown below. And to replenish your collection of Roman coins, from the period of the republic to the late empire, you can in our section of the coins of Rome.
