The uniqueness of the techniques and the richness of the ornaments became the key to the fact that in 2013 the Petrykivka painting was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site. The works of masters who used this type of decorative and ornamental painting have been preserved since the 18th century. But in the modern sense, Petrikovskaya painting was formed later, and the works of Ukrainian artists contributed to this.

This type of painting was characterized by the use of floral floral ornaments, which were a logical continuation of the Ukrainian Baroque. Various coloristic and compositional solutions, materials and techniques showed the whole variety of ideas of the masters - Alexander Fedoseevich's Statures, Tatyana Akimovna Pata, Praskovya Nikolaevna Pavlenko, Zoya Valentinovna Kudish, Fyodor Savvich Panko, Vasily Ivanovich Sokolenko, Nina Ivanovna Turchin and others.

The painting could be done with multi-colored clays, vegetable dyes, aniline, oil, watercolor, acrylic paints, tempera, gouache, with the addition of egg yolk, milk or alcohol. For application, brushes, fingers, pipettes, reed sticks were used.

The works of most masters could be identified by handwriting, approach to stylization, interpretation of traditional elements. For example, a vase with the image of Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko, by Ukrainian artist Vera Ivanovna Pavlenko, is proof that in her creative searches she did not deviate from local traditional ornaments, but made them more graphic and miniature.

The Ukrainian artist managed to significantly expand the traditional Petrykivka gamut: compositions were built on the principle of color contrast, tonal developments of one or more colors. The contours of the drawings were drawn in black, ornamental elements were introduced, which created new opportunities for Petrikov's interpretations.

Recall that the work of the master of Petrikovskaya painting was an adornment of numerous republican, all-Union and foreign exhibitions of folk art in Paris, Brussels, Kabul, Leipzig, Tokyo, New York.

The Violity website section “Ceramics, Porcelain, Glass” is a place of concentration of works by famous Ukrainian masters of Petrykivka painting.
